80th Anniversary of D-Day Landings – Beacon Lighting Event

Last modified date

Join us on 6th June at St. Mary Magadelene Church, Warboys, to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

There will be a church service, set to commence at 7.30 pm, which will be a time for reflection and unity as we pay tribute to the brave souls who embarked on that historic mission. Following the service, Reverend Garry Dawson and the church members will extend their hospitality with refreshments, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.

At 9 pm, Warboys Voices will provide us with their rendition of “We Will Meet Again”. Shortly after, at 9.15 pm, the newly appointed Honorary Freeman of Warboys, Roy Reeves, will light the beacon. Simultaneously beacons will be lit across the Country, symbolising the enduring spirit of hope and freedom.

During this solemn moment, the Chair of Warboys Parish Council will honour the legacy of those who sacrificed on D-Day and throughout World War II by reading ‘The International Tribute,’ an acknowledgment of their bravery and sacrifice.

As the evening draws to a close, we invite you to join us and the Choir in singing our National Anthem, a symbolic gesture of unity and patriotism.

Additionally, earlier in the day, the Warboys Bell Ringers will echo the nation’s sentiment by ringing at 6.30 pm, marking the significance of this historic occasion with a melodious tribute.

Together, let us remember, honour, and celebrate the legacy of bravery and sacrifice that defines the spirit of D-Day and World War II.
